The Tandes District Office, Surabaya, is Sprinkled with the Use of Javanese Script.

Rajapatni.com: Surabaya (8/11/24) – Of the 31 districts in the city of Surabaya, the Tandes district office is probably the only district office in Surabaya that is most scattered with Javanese script writing.  Almost every function point in this office area is written in Javanese script, which is side by side with Latin script.

Starting from information media displays, service mottos, standing banners containing the vision and mission, names of service officers, service information complete with telephone numbers in Javanese script, service office backdrops, wifi services, to warning signs that prohibit “no smoking”, including the head’s district room.

Tandes District is led by Head Surfebriadhitia Prajatara, S.STP, M.Si. This office is not just using Javanese script, but the arrangement of the office space and the design of Javanese script writing are very carefully considered so that it becomes a comfortable space for the people.

In a comfortable place supported by good design, writing Javanese script is not only informative but also educational. Moreover, it is coupled with good service from friendly office staffs. This atmosphere was as seen on Tuesday evening (5/11/24) when serving residents who were recording their Digital Population Identity (IKD). While waiting for services, residents can watch and learn Javanese script.

From field observations, there was one officer who seemed to understand Javanese script. However, many people still don’t understand Javanese script. When asked, one of the residents who was recording Digital Population Identity that night, he admitted that he still couldn’t read Javanese script.

Therefore, to attract the attention of people to see and at least observe the writing of Javanese script, the script font chosen as well as the design and writing media are made to be very attractive. Including written content. For example, the name of the officer is written in Javanese script. “Hi with me, Tari” and this is displayed on the table nameplate.

Never miss the standing banner containing the Vision and Mission of Tandes District. This is in the form of a sentence. The presentation is very interesting. Although there are errors in some of the writing structures. However, what the Tandes District Office has done and displayed in nguri nguri local culture is highly commendable and should be emulated by other Districts.

Over the past year, the city of Surabaya has begun to popularize the use of Javanese script. (PAR/nng)
