Rajapatni.com: Surabaya (29/10/26) – The Indian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty, recently (25/10/24) visited the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) and met the Governor of DIY Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono and also King of Mataram.
The meeting was aimed at increasing cooperation that could strengthen good relations between Indonesia and India. This relationship is more focused on the fields of Culture and Economy as two sectors that have the opportunity to be improved.
Quoted from jogjaprov.go.id, the Head of the DIY One Stop Investment and Integrated Services Service (DPMPTSP), Agus Priono, revealed this after accompanying the Governor of DIY, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X in a meeting with the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty on Friday (25/10). Sri Sultan received a visit from Sandeep Chakravorty at Gedhong Wilis, Kepatihan Complex, Yogyakarta.
Agus revealed that the relationship between Indonesia and India has even been going on since the time of Indonesia’s struggle for independence. Where India was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
“Including the struggle at the UN, the fight for Indonesian independence (Indonesia-India) is closely related. That’s why the Governor said earlier that it is appropriate for these two countries, which have a long, close history, to be filled with activities that have a more significant impact on both parties. Specifically, of course, if the Governor wants relations in the cultural sector, that is one of the things that the Governor has emphasized,” said Agus.
Agus said that some time before, a Ramayana performance had been held with actors from India. This event is an example of cultural event cooperation which Sri Sultan hopes can be carried out again.
“Including there may be an Indian cultural delegation. Hopefully, later we will be very open,” said Agus.
Meanwhile, according to the Honorary Consul of India for East Java, Central Java and DIY in Surabaya, Manoj Bhat, relations between India and Java have been going on for around 3000 years before Christ. The Ramayana story is an old epic that describes the relationship between India and Javadwipa (the island of Java), where Sugriwa, who was General Rama’s subordinate, came to the island of Java to look for Shinta.
Until now, the Ramayana story is still popular in Java as it was staged some time before the arrival of the Indian Ambassador in Yogyakarta.
As an implementation of relations between India and Yogykarta, through the Office of the Honorary Consulate of India for East Java, Central Java and DIY immediately sent one of the civil servants within the DIY Cultural Service to India. Amrih Setya Prasaja, Head of the Language, Literature and Literacy (Aksara) Section of the DIY Culture Service, will immediately depart for India in the India Technology and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Program, taking the Remote Sensing and Digital Image Processing for Geoscientists course at the Geological Survey of India Training Institute in Hyderabad.
